i first met Lorne on his first day at el rancho jr. high. and how i met him was he, having long hair as myself, i asked him,so you party or what. we started hangin out and went to his moms and stepdads cuz we liked the same musicand got the pleasure to see him play the guitar. i know he was a bass plyer, but my boy could play guitar.i got the pleasure of helping his dtepdadbuild a soundproof room in their garage, and helped out when him, mike and mark started"maybe later". he would come over stay or leave his equiptment at my folks house and play my guitar for my mom and she loved it.he would play "mood for a day" by "yes".and play it beautifully. my moms always knew he would make it, and when he went with great white i showed her on mtv and she was happy for him and not at all surprised. she knew. when my mom passed like 8 years ago, i thought bout lorne and how he touched her heart just sittin around and playin for her. mom loved lorne, as did i. we lost touch when i moved north but never forgot about my brother. rest in peace, my boy, i know are.lornes mom, if you remember me, contact my e-mail. miss you as well.

Lorne came to our house quite a bit and 1 time early on, he brought me a little gift and then another and another until it became an every visit thing. One day he was especially feeling down, he felt forgotten, so before he left I asked him if he would sign the gift he had brought me on that visit, and he was thrilled. After that every gift he brought me I had him sign. He loved it, and I loved him for having thought enough about me that he always brought me a gift when he visited.

I am so sorry Marcella for your loss. This is Sandy from Sandwood Street. I lived next door to you and Lorne until about 8th grade when you moved to Cerritos. He was my best friend growing up and have so many great memories of him and you. We lost touch about a year or so after you moved and he stopped by one time around 1981. I was engaged to get married then and lost touch after that. Today of all days, I was thinking of him and googled his name and found this...I am so sorry for your loss. I didn't know him as a musician but as a wonderful childhood friend, my best friend! XOXO

First let me say that I am so truly sorry for your loss. Although I did not know Lorne personally, I used to joke that the only reason I started one of my websites - Full in Bloom Music - was so I could interview Lorne. On my site you can read interviews from many musicians from that era. Several I was either the first to interview or in some cases have been the only one granted an interview. But, let me be clear, there was no one I wanted to interview more than Lorne. I contacted people, that are in the know, asking if they knew how to track him down. Every year I would type his name in the search engines to see if he had resurfaced. Finally about 3 or 4 years ago I found some random girl on the internet that had a picture of Lorne and it looked like he was hanging out at her house. It made no mention of Great White but I knew it was him. I contacted her and she seemed excited, said she was a friend and told me that she would pass along my message. In the end, Lorne declined to do an interview. I understood. I wrote her back and told her that I saw Lorne at my first concert when Great White opened for Judas Priest.....'84 maybe and that he was one of my heroes. Somehow I related to Lorne, more than anyone, and he helped alter the course of my life. I immediately bought a bass....or, realistically had my parents buy one for me. Since then I have done albums, own my own studio and will be releasing more in the future. It was Lorne that helped remind me of who I was in this life and what I had come to do. As I said before, I would joke and say the only reason I started Full in Bloom Music was so I could interview Lorne.....although I said it as a joke, I also meant it. I wanted to find Tony Richards (which I did), drummer for WASP - who also played with Lorne for a time and I wanted to find Lorne Black. It was my opinion as a kid that Great White made a major mistake by firing Lorne. I interviewed Jack Russell, several months ago, and most of the interview focused on the Lorne era of Great White because that was my favorite. We did talk about the recent Great White break up, but only because Jack wanted to....as soon as he finished we started talking about the Lorne era. There is still an entire segment that I haven't published yet which focuses on the Self-titled album era entirely. When I asked Jack about Lorne being fired, he said that Lorne showed up late to the video shoot for 'Rock Me'. I understand that business is business but this was a guy who had already done an EP and three full length albums. Not only that but he was in the band through their club days, to getting signed by EMI, to getting dropped by EMI, putting out 'Shot in the Dark' independently and then getting a new major label deal with Capitol. On top of that he was the coolest member that Great White EVER had. 'Once Bitten' was the last Great White album I ever purchased and I had purchased them all, even when "Shot in the Dark' was still an indie release. It really bothered me that Lorne had worked that hard through all those years and got kicked out after recording 'Once Bitten' - just before the song "Rock Me" broke and turned the band into bonafide rock stars. In the end it shouldn't really matter because Great White soon fell from their pedestal, experiencing their own share of tragedy (as most of us do) and now are split into two bands and playing small-ER clubs. But I really wish he would have had the chance to see the success through, he deserved it and I'm sure it bothered him through the years. Anyhow, it really hit me hard when I learned about Lorne's passing. I had already resigned myself to never doing an interview with him, so it wasn't that. Although I would have made him proud. I have had many interviews where a musician talks smack about someone else, or saying so and so was on drugs and I never printed that portion. Not to say that I edit out everything, but I think most sites would have printed all the smack talking just to get more hits. I would have hooked Lorne up and presented an interview that he could have been proud of. The world has a strange way of touching lives. He never knew me but Lorne was one of my heroes, as I am sure he was to many others. It was him that reminded me of one of my reasons for coming to this planet. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those who loved him. Thank you so much for your life Lorne - you made a real difference in mine and I will be forever grateful. Lorne and I had a on again/off again love affair in the 80's that spanned about four years....he was a handful - but I treasured every minute together. He has never left my heart and I was so sad to hear of his passing. During our time, I knew he was safe and sheltered and made sure he reached out to his mamma with flowers! He had a big heart and I always prayed that he could overcome the cycle of destruction he was on....I always knew there would be another girl to pick him up and take care of him. He is at peace now and heaven has another naughty angel up there! Good memories together will always be in my heart- My heartfelt sympathies to his family.

It is difficult to find the words to describe my old friend Lorne. I met him many years ago in Norwalk when he lived on Flallon. It was a crazy time for many of us and a difficult one for me. Lorne helped me get through those times being a good friend and always looking out for me when I was pregnant with my youngest son who I named after him. I am sad that I lost touch with him over the years. You always think there will be another tomorrow. He will always be in my heart as a dear friend. Much love and blessings to the family.
